Description
This is the authentic pigment used from ancient times to make the most brilliant blues. Modern lapis can come from Afghanistan, as did the ancient pigment, and from South America. Our lapis originates in South America. Known as “Fra Angelico Blue,” this pricey pigment was reserved for the Virgin Mary’s robes and the deep firmament (heavens) in Medieval and Renaissance religious paintings. Transparent.
