Description
Calcined natural ocher, used in cave art; named for place it was originally found, now mined in France. Lightfast, mixes with any medium or pigment. Needs much oil, long grinding to make oil-paint.
AKA: Pompeii sienna, Italian burnt sienna, russet, [Fr] sienna calcinee, terre de sienne brûlée, [Ger] Gebrannte Sienaerde, [It] terra di siena bruciata.
